May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Our mission is to improve lives through the power of the human-dog connection, and our programs allow us to positively impact mental health in our community in a variety of ways. Paws and Think provides Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAIs) that provide therapeutic benefits and enhance the quality of life for many different populations including
children, the elderly, students and professionals experiencing academic or workplace stress, and those who have experienced a crisis or traumatic event. Research shows that interacting
with a therapy dog can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and increase neurotransmitters that influence mood and improve overall mental health. Not only does interacting with a therapy dog
provide positive benefits for the people we visit each week, but the presence of a therapy animal can also improve the relationship between a patient and caregiver and can positively impact the
caregiver as well. Our therapy dogs provide the crucial gifts of unconditional love and acceptance to everyone they meet.
If you are not currently part of our programs but could benefit from a virtual visit with a therapy team, you can sign up for a 15-minute virtual visit through our Paws to Connect program at pawsandthink.org/register.
